The Catster Chronicles

6 week old calico kitten from Sunset Blvd neighbor. 8 weeks old on September 8. Mom’s a Tuxedo with green eyes. Dad’s a yellow tabby, hence her calico coat. Both parents feral and on the small side.

Catster’s new “Favorite” spot. As soon as I sit down at my desk to work on my laptop she curls up behind it for a nap 🙂

Catster’s latest habit. She lounges in front of the speaker and listens to jazz with me.

3.24.22. Catster loves sleeping in this thing but won’t climb in it while it’s hanging. I don’t think she likes the swinging and won’t stay in it long enough for it to settle. I guess she “feels protected” in it if cats can sense that. It’s near my desk, so she keeps an eye on me when I’m working.

2.3.22. Not the first time Catster has jumped on my shoulders, She did it with confidence and promptly settled in, eventually, taking a “nap”. I didn’t mind as I was on line and sitting comfortably.

It’s January 2022 and Catster’s personality has blossomed. She’s into something new every day. She learned she could spring up on the barstool and step onto the counter a while ago. From there she creeps onto the kitchen counter and, occasionally, into the sink. Today, with me in the kitchen, she jumped from sink side of the room to the oven side. I left the room to see what she would do and, after exploring for a few minutes, she jumped back, down and up into my lap. She loafed herself on my knee and looked back at me seeming to say “did you see what I did”.

So, Catster has added another “circle of concern”. I had previously left food out on the oven side counter. Now, I leave nothing out, clean both counters daily and pay special attention to where she is after I cook. Are we having fun yet 🙂

Funny, I keep a 1 foot screen in the kitchen doorway that she’s never jumps over. She will saunter into the kitchen if I leave it open though.

9/29/21. So now Catster roams the whole house and at night I leave my bedroom door open. I have no idea what she does in her nightly strolls. Around 2 am, she hops on the bed and curls up but usually exits to under the bed before dawn.

Bisselsign

As the pandemic disrupts global food supply chains, people may have to depend more on locally grown food. Experts expect the number of people suffering through severe food shortages could swell to 265 million people in 2020.
Bissel Gardeners are glad they have been community gardening and raising food for themselves for more than 25 years. We hope when the NYC Pause In Place is lifted more folks will see the need for community gardens and will join us! Chuck the Gardener

GARDEN TIP - When plants are about two feet tall, prune out the foliage from the bottom 12" of larger pepper varieties like bell, cubanelle, and poblano peppers. For smaller varieties such as jalapeno, shishito, and Thai peppers, remove foliage from the lower 6-8" of stems.Aug 11, 2022

Cream-style soups are a favorite for warm, soothing meals on cold winter nights. The addition of a cup or two of cooked beans can stretch canned or homemade soup into a complete, protein-rich meal in just minutes. Stir a can of drained rinsed white beans into tomato soup. Or try pinto beans added to cream of celery soup.
