Cogging Back to Good Health

bikeOkay, so I’ve had my share of health problems over the last few years. Unfortunately, sometimes as we get older we get sick and, figuratively and often literally, fall apart. The common cold seems completely uncommon and the flu can severely sideline and possiblely kill us. When we get a cold, we often ignore the warning signs until too late and when it’s full blown, we look for any port, which is usually some over-the-counter miracle. Or we believe doctors have magic bullets and we seek their help and hope the 2 pills they give us will make us better by morning.

I’ve decided to Cog Back to Good Health (CBGH). I’ve had my ups and downs and, recognizing I was never a gym rat, I’m going to ride my way back to good health. I am going to ride my bike every day (hmm, I really HATE riding in the rain and snow). Riding my bike is going to be the fifth thing I do every day. 1. Get Out of Bed 2. Bathroom 3. Drink Water 4. Get Dressed 5. Ride My Bike. Let’s start with the typical “30 Day Challenge” and for good measure the Tour De Bronx is Sunday October 28. I’m still a punk, so I’ve registered for the 25 miler. I’ll keep you posted!

fixed bike bull

I haven’t done a bike tour in years. I realize now that my degenerating hip prevented me from enjoying what I loved best: Riding a bike. My hip was replaced with a Nimbus 300 February 26 and I’ll be back on a bike June 1st. I don’t think I’ll get in a century this year but I’ll be back on a bike. Hallelujah! I remember riding my first NYC Century and it was one of the greatest experiences in my life. The last time I did the NYC Century Bike Tour, I was a ride volunteer and loved helping other riders along the way. – #BxFixed

CGFROG

It takes more than a village to raise a child in today's world. The world is more than flat or round or sun and moon. It's also the village on the other side of the river. The objects in the sky are different from that view. Community Greens, griot-like, tells a story. I invite you to share my view. - Chuck Vasser

Bike Positions

A riders determines how s/he wants to ride a bike and what type of bike they will use. Bikes, therefore, come in different configurations and geometries to suit individual riders. Different body positions suit each bike, such as 2 o’clock, 12 o’clock, 1 o’clock and so on.

Dog Crates

Done right, crate training helps breed familiarity, trust and a sense of security between your pup and his crate. You should not put dogs in crates that have not been properly crate trained.

Mat Training

Mat Training- A mat, or a defined place for a dog to “go to,” is a versatile and useful behavior to teach a dog. A mat can be a a dog bed, a dog mat, a bath mat, a towel, a blanket, – whatever makes the most sense for the dog and the handler.

Cream-style soups are a favorite for warm, soothing meals on cold winter nights. The addition of a cup or two of cooked beans can stretch canned or homemade soup into a complete, protein-rich meal in just minutes. Stir a can of drained rinsed white beans into tomato soup. Or try pinto beans added to cream of celery soup.
