There be greens at Bissel Garden. Sheryl Heyward, AKA the Collard Queen, has brought the Heirloom Collard Project to the Bronx. We’ve always grown greens, but I’ll be honest, I never took much note of the “type”. Greens are greens aren’t they. Well, they’re not. There are lots of different varieties and I’m anxious to see how it turns out.
Sheryl has gotten seeds started already and has noticed different germination rates. I wonder what else there is in store. Will some have elephant ear size leaves? Will others have a different “chew’? We’re looking forward to the first ever Bissel Garden Collard Greens Cook Off this summer. Hmm, we may add chili to that menu. Stay tuned!
