Tour De Bronx 2015

There are few things better than riding a bike on a pleasant fall afternoon. You can, however, add salsa. You can add a 1/2 dozen or so friends and create camaraderie. You can add bike club members to infuse a co-operative/competitive element. Or, as with the Tour De Bronx, you can add 6 thousand like-minded people who you can strike up a conversation with at any corner along the way. Cause rides are great. and purposeful, but the Tour De Bronx, the city’s largest FREE cycling event is a trek without burden through the Bronx, the borough of parks and colleges, that ends at the New York Botanical Gardens, one of the best botanical gardens in the country. Top that, if you can!

Black Girls Do Bike! They really do and I’ve got pictures to prove it. I met some of the wonderful members from the NY Chapter. There are 49 chapters across the country. Go directly to the BGDBnyc chapter or connect with the umbrella group at www.blackgirlsdobike.com30-DSC_0076-001

When I met this guy on a “monster truck” unicycle we immediately began to chat about the King Charles Unicycle Troup. I remember when they began teaching Bronx kids how to ride unicycles before they made their debut with the Ringling Brothers Barnum Bailey Circus.15-DSC_0040-001

I also got to chat with this fellow reppin’ the Major Taylor Cycle Club. “Major” Taylor was an African-American cyclist who won the world 1 mile track cycling championship in 1899 and went on to become world champion. But you new that, right.35-DSC_0088-001
