High Bridge Walking Tour-An Intimate View

In 1848, the High Bridge spanned the Harlem River connecting the Bronx to Manhattan to transport clean water via the Croton Aqueduct. Join Bryan Diffley — the Project Manager in charge of the renovation of this outstanding engineering treasure — on a very special walking tour of NYC’s oldest standing bridge.

Thursday June 25 at 6:30pm

High Bridge was designed by John B. Jervis, Chief Engineer of the Croton Aqueduct who modeled it after the great aqueducts of the Roman Empire. The bridge remained in use for the Croton system until 1955 and its deck remained in use as a pedestrian bridge until the 1970’s when it was closed due to vandalism. The city began restoring the bridge in 2012.

Tour proceeds support free tours for public school students of NYC’s historic reservoirs & the High Bridge.
