Young Roots – Still Standing

Hat to the back is old school, but so am I. But I was in there, in the Bronx, when Hip Hop was born somewhere between Morrisania and Lincoln Hospitals. I was there when brothers started dropping dope beats to beat the dope in the streets. The war in Viet Nam was killing our communities and the unrecognized War On Civil Rights begat heroin as chemical warfare. The rising flames of urban insanity made us all climb trees or perish to $2 dollar bags and Rockefeller Drug laws.

But the roots persist and continue to nourish us as we climb. Rokafella, Hip Hop artist extraordinaire, has brought together a group of hat to the front young people to choreo-poem stories that remained immutable: A young woman dances away the anguish of an undeserved night in jail and a young man breaks to following his dream. I climbed a different tree to get above the flood, but these young Hip Hop artists reconnected me to the Bronx I grew up in. Their work is that wonderful. If you weren’t in the Bronx back in the day, get introduced. Check them out:

A green roof is partially or completely covered with vegetation, such as sedum, planted in a growing medium over a waterproof membrane. Green roofs are can help insulate your house, reduce water runoff, filter pollutants, and cool the air. The typical green roof isn’t meant to be walked on. A roof garden, whether or not it has flowerbeds, is meant to be visited and enjoy.
